Physicochemical property

Pure glutaraldehyde is a colorless and transparent oily liquid that is easily soluble in organic solvents such as water, ether, and ethanol. It has a melting point of -14 ℃ and a boiling point of 188 ℃, and decomposes. Its refractive index (25 ℃) is 1.4330, and it is not flammable. 25% glutaraldehyde aqueous solution has a relative density of 1.0 (20 ℃), a melting point of -5.8 ℃, a boiling point of 101 ℃, and strong irritant properties. It has a fragrant aroma, lively properties, is easily volatile, polymerized, and oxidized. It can crosslink with proteins and be used for tanning leather, resulting in excellent washability and sweat resistance.

1. This product is used as a fixative for microscopic inspection. It has a good fixation effect on the fine structures of the nucleus and cytoplasm, and is mainly used for fixing electron microscopy specimens. Not applicable for fixed nucleic acid and polysaccharide substances.
